New 52 does Green Lantern!

Here's a post i didn't actually think i would be doing - A review of the New 52's three new green Lantern series. I'm not going to lie, previous to New 52, i really couldn't stand Green Lantern. If i'm honest with myself though, it was purely because i didn't give it enough time. To my surprise, The New 52 reboot is,  quite frankly, astounding.

Green Lantern

In hall Jordan's return to the title, Sinestro is sworn in as a green lantern again - after previously using his powers to enslave his home planet with an army of his creation. He gives recently disgraced lantern Hal a temporary replicated Green Lantern ring, provided Hal does what Sinestro says. The unstable duo go off to Sinestro's homeworld to try and liberate it of his oppressive army.

The art (by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy) does the job well, and is nothing out of the ordinary (it is what we are use to as superhero fans). Written by the Phenomenal Geoff Johns, The story is well delivered if a bit out-of-nowhere for first-time Lantern readers. Well recommended, and a fresh new start for Hal Jordan - Sort of.

Green Lantern - New Guardians

New Lantern Kyle Rayner is having a hard time of it - especially when a power ring from each corps comes to him! At first he is implicated that he is  a thief, but it is revealed that something far more sinister is afoot! Rayner and the enforcers from each of the corps have to team up to fight a greater evil (henceforth, new enforcers. It's pretty much Green Lantern's own mini-Justice League.).

Rayner pretty much gets the shortest origin story in the world. It doesn't mean he's a particularly weak character, it just means he's perhaps not going to be the most popular lantern. The art style is a definite contrast to the main Green Lantern style, and follows closer to more of the modernized New 52.

Green Lantern Corps

Green Lantern Corps is the one that has really wowed me, and actually imbued an interest in the Lanterns in me. When deadly conflicts emerge across the universe, it's up to Guy Gardner and John Stewart to protect those at risk - and the Lantern Corps as a whole.

The art is brilliant, and Stewart and Gardner are a duo with more charisma than any of the other Lantern protagonists in each of them. This feels like it is playing out on a much larger scale than the other stories - They actually seem in danger - something you usually don't need to worry about with Hal Jordan - and Green Lantern Corps isn't afraid of killing a few Lantern members on the way...
